Decision to Buy Scratch-Off Ticket Life Changing for Grand Rivers Woman

This is a miracle,” said Sonya Lawson, 43, of Grand Rivers, KY.  She said this when talking to lottery officials yesterday about winning $100,000 on a Green and Gold scratch-off ticket.

The day after Christmas, while at Discount Tobacco and Lottery in Benton, Sonya bought a $10 scratch-off.  After not winning anything on that ticket, she decided to buy another $10 ticket but this time chose the Green and Gold ticket.

“I don’t usually buy FTP tickets, but something just told me to pick the Green and Gold ticket,” Sonya said. She said that one decision will now be life changing.

“When I scratched the pineapple off and realized I matched, I figured I’d won a free ticket but it was $100,000.  I started shaking and couldn’t breathe,” she said.

Sonya works at the Waffle House in Calvert City as a waitress and plans to use some of the winnings to buy a car.  She was very excited to know that she will be able to put the remainder in savings to use when needed.

“This isn’t play money, this is my life,” Sonya said.  “Every once in a while you have to take a chance.  I’m glad I did.”
