Muhlenburg County woman wins $70,000 instantly playing Kentucky Lottery online

May 2, 2024

Jacklyn Brooks of Powderly, KY won over $70,000 instantly after she went online and played a Kentucky Lottery Instant Play game.

It was early Wednesday morning when Brooks pulled up the Kentucky Lottery app and wagered $2 on the Bluegrass Bucks game.

“I woke up pushing buttons,” Brooks said.  After the game went into the bonus round, the message she won the $70,384.66 jackpot showed up on her phone screen.

“I couldn’t do anything,” she said.  “I hit the jackpot, and I didn’t know what to do.”

Minutes later, Brooks received an email from the Kentucky Lottery confirming her big win.

The Muhlenburg woman called her best friend to come help her.  “I was a little confused and needed her to help me claim it.”

“She was just so calm,” her best friend Mandi Griggs said.  “If anybody deserves it, it’s her.  She’s such a good person.  She takes care of everybody.”

Brooks, along with Griggs, showed up at lottery headquarters the next day to claim her prize.

After taxes, Brooks received a check for $50,676.95.  She told officials that being able to pay off debt will take some of the stress off.

“She needs to do something for herself,” Griggs added.
