Penny McCurdy of Louisville won a surprising $50,000 on a Powerball ticket she purchased for the December 30th drawing.

The jackpot on December 30th was worth an estimated $760 Million with the winning numbers 10,11, 26, 27, 34 and Powerball 7. McCurdy won the game’s $50,000 third prize by matching four white ball numbers and the Powerball.

McCurdy recounted her journey from the moment she bought the ticket at her regular store, the Circle K on Taylorsville Road in Louisville.  She usually plays Scratch-offs, but she felt the time was right to pick up a Powerball ticket.

After discovering her ticket was a winner, the clerk advised her to head straight to Kentucky Lottery headquarters, leaving McCurdy guessing the amount of her win. McCurdy excitedly shared the news with her husband.  "They said I need to go to the lottery office,” she told him.

The couple looked up the winning numbers on kylottery.com to discover that she had won $50,000!

While on the way to lottery headquarters, her car began to overheat.  Still in shock, McCurdy shared this win couldn't have come at a better time.

Having faced challenges in 2020, including a battle with COVID-19 and subsequent health conditions preventing her from working, this win promises a brighter future.  She plans to use her winnings to pay off bills, providing peace of mind.

McCurdy was accompanied by her husband and son while she claimed her prize the Tuesday, following her win.  After taxes, she received a check for $36,000.

As McCurdy was leaving the lottery office, she told officials how grateful she was for her win.

Circle K will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
