A Washington County man’s fortune took a turn for the better as he found himself $50,000 richer after purchasing a Kentucky Lottery Scratch-off.

Cord Brearton was on his way to work one day last month when he stopped at PV & P Mart in Springfield to buy the Millionaire Club Scratch-off.  He said it stood out to him because it was ticket “001” on the roll.

“I was going to go in half with my buddy, but he told me to just go for it.” He said his friend checked the odds of the tickets before deciding to make a purchase.

After purchasing the $50 ticket, he scratched the ticket while still in the store.

“I scratched the first bonus, and it was a loser. Then I scratched the second bonus, and it said I won $10,000! I scanned the barcode (on the vending machine), and it said I won $50,000! I couldn’t believe it.”

Brearton said he tried to tell everyone. He sent pictures to friends and posted the ticket on social media in shock of his huge prize.

Luck seems to run in the family as Brearton said his brother-in-law recently won a large prize on a Kentucky Lottery Scratch-off ticket as well.

Brearton said he plans to buy a truck with his winnings so he can put more hours in at work.

The Willisburg, KY man took home a check on January 30th for $36,000 after taxes.

PV & P Mart will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
