A Water Valley, KY woman and her husband came to Kentucky Lottery headquarters April 25th to collect a $50,000 Powerball prize.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, bought the Powerball ticket on April 6th and was good for two consecutive drawings.  The winning ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball on the April 10th drawing.

“I’ve been playing the same numbers for 26 years,” her husband said. “So, it feels good to win.”

The woman credits her late friend for their recent win. She told lottery officials that her friend had given her husband a game that selects numbers at random and that’s how he got his favorite Powerball numbers.

“I just kept them. I’ve played them ever since,” her husband said. “I know she [friend] would be happy,” the woman added.

The couple said they found out they won by checking their numbers online the next day.

“He was as white as a ghost! He said, ‘Honey come look at this’,” the woman said.

“Just one more number and we would’ve won $30 million,” her husband said.

Other than her brother-in-law, the woman said they hadn’t shared the news of their winning with anyone. “We had to tell him just in case we broke down on the way up here,” her husband joked.

After taxes, the Graves County couple walked away with a check for $36,000.

As for plans for their winnings, the couple said they will pay off debt.

Jay Ambe 1 in Fulton, where the winning ticket was sold, will receive $500.
