JOB SUMMARY 

The Network Administrator I administers the Kentucky Lottery Corporation’s (KLC’s) network environment to support the overall vision of the organization. Maintains the reliability of the network infrastructure and operating systems on multiple platforms. Installs, configures, deploys, and supports servers, routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and cloud networking appliances. Provides systems services such as disk management, problem determination and resolution, disaster recovery and directory structure management. Performs research and documentation of the network hardware and software components. Conducts research and evaluates new technologies and tools. Provides technical expertise and guidance in the areas of workstation, server, and general device communications. Provides backup support for workstation analysis, network/LAN administration and network security. Provides support for all components of the corporation’s network infrastructure. Assists in defining LAN, WAN, and desktop environment policies, procedures, and standards. Delivers high quality, reliable work. Works under general supervision and guidance to perform tasks as outlined by Sr. Network Administrator(s), Network Architect, and Network Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provides 2nd tier support for service desk of the KLC’s computing environment.

 

  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to the corporation in the areas of network, hardware and software capabilities.

 

  • Works with Network Administrator(s) and Network Architect to research, evaluate and make recommendations to management as to the hardware and/or software solution that best meets the corporation’s strategic initiatives.

 

  • Implements and maintains LAN/WAN and desktop policies, procedures and standards and ensures their conformance with IT and KLC objectives.  

 

  • Works jointly with the Information Security Department to ensure that security is implemented and enforced consistent with ISO standards.

 

  • Handles the initial configuration, testing, and installation of new network hardware and software.

 

  • Follows accepted project methodology concepts as it applies to the KLC.

 

  • Identifies situations where additional resources or expertise are required to complete tasks and notifies management.

 

  • Responsible for the efficient operation of the corporation's network environment including connectivity of printers and personal computers.
  • Regularly monitors for conditions that may require corrective action and advises management of recommended resolution. 

 

  • Provides guidance to Network Support Technician on service requests related to network/communications issues.

 

  • Performs various duties as assigned by manager including preparing reports, attending meetings, and performing studies as they relate to information technology.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field; equivalent relatable experience or industry certifications may be substituted in lieu of degree. 
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with network infrastructure, supporting windows server environments, LAN administration, and network management/protocol analysis.
  • Proficient with Cisco and Fortinet network devices.
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiar with firewall technologies and concepts.
  • Familiar with cloud networking concepts (Azure load balancers, network security groups).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks independently.
  • Must be self-motivated, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent decision-making and organizational skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and properly document changes and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment – Hybrid in accordance with KLC policies.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • After hours on-call rotation for emergency support.
  • Travel – Less than 10%.

Salary Range: $60,639-$75,798 (Midpoint). Our goal is to pay a competitive market salary for new employees, which is typically up to the midpoint of our pay ranges. However, final offers for all positions will be based on several factors such as experience level, education, skills and internal pay equity
