‘I went running through the office:’ Bardwell Woman Wins $100,000 on Kentucky Lottery’s Spooky Match Multiplier

There was nothing haunting about a Bardwell, Ky. woman’s recent $100,000 win on the Kentucky Lottery’s online game Spooky Match Multiplier.

Pamela Gill might have spooked a co-worker when she ran to her office in disbelief after her big win.

“That’s not something you see every day,” joked co-worker and best friend Christa Allen, from Bardwell.

“I think I might have yelled ‘holy crap,’ too,” Gill laughed recounting the moments a $10 bet went from a $1,000 to $100,000.

“It (the game) first said I had won $1,000 but then I got two 50 multipliers and that’s how I won the $100,000,” Gill said.

Gill runs a large commercial farming operation across Carlisle, Hickman, and Ballard counties.

Gill said she was working on a project with a lot of numbers and needed a break. She grabbed her iPad and that’s “when it happened so quick.”

She ran to Allen’s office while the game was still tallying her winnings. “It was still clicking over the money, and it was at $60,000 at that point,” Gill said.

The friends and co-workers traveled to Kentucky Lottery headquarters to claim Gill’s winnings, nearly $73,000 after taxes.

Gill plans to do some home renovations with her winnings.

They had won on every spot on the ticket, winning the game’s $50,000 top prize.

Tears flowed, and Virginia called her husband, and Sue called her son to share the news. Out of concern, Sue’s son told her, “Mama, don’t call me crying anymore.”

For the most part, the sisters kept the news quiet at first, sharing it only with close family and their neighbor. “I’ll tell everybody after I get the big check,” Virginia laughed.

After taxes, they each received a check for $18,125.

Sue told lottery officials she plans to put her winnings toward home improvements – a well-deserved reward after years of budgeting their lottery weekly spend and sticking to $5 tickets or less. “We have a limit. It’s just for fun,” they said.

As for Virginia, with retirement right around the corner and a cushion to fall back on, she said they are ready for new adventures, and more Friday night Kentucky Lottery tradition.

IGA Express received $500 for selling the winning ticket.
