Braxton Skaggs, of Campbellsville, Ky., has claimed his second Kentucky Lottery Instant Play win in five months. This time the win totals nearly $58,000.
Skaggs told lottery officials he had “eased off” from playing since his $30,000 win on Triple Platinum in May. But that all changed once he found out his mom won $3,000 playing online.
“He got on two or three days later,” his mom said. “I kept telling him it was going to hit.”
After hearing about his mom’s luck, Skaggs got on his phone and started playing while packing for a family vacation.
“I was sitting at the table, and he was chilling outside, and I could tell he was playing because he had his phone,” she said.
“I just got off from work and was just wasting time and decided to jump on,” Skaggs told lottery officials.
As he played, his account balance would fluctuate up and down. Skaggs had $150 left in his account and was about to log off when he wagered $5 on the Bluegrass Bucks Hot Hit Jackpots Instant Play game.
“I was about to get off, and it was the next one that I got the jackpot,” he said. Braxton won the $57,947.26 progressive jackpot – taking home a check for $41,722.03 after taxes.
“I was sitting at the table, and he comes running in. ‘Mom, mom, you’re not going to believe this, I hit the big one again,” she recalled.
“I was tore up. I was more excited about this one than I was the first one,” Skaggs said.
Skaggs told lottery officials when he claimed his prize in May that he was saving to build a house. Now that he has won for a second time, building a house is becoming a reality.
“We’re getting ready to start pouring the foundation next week,” Braxton said as he was leaving Lottery headquarters.
