For Shenea Wallin of Nancy, Ky., a quick errand became a life-changing moment thanks to purchasing a Kentucky Lottery $50 Instant Millionaire Scratch-off.
After a regular day at work, Shenea stopped at Midland Farms located at 1830 KY-80 in Somerset and suddenly found herself with a $50,000 win.
“When I saw the winnings, I thought there’s no way, that’s wrong.” She confirmed the amount of her win with a Midland Farms clerk and did the first thing every lottery winner should do: “I immediately signed the back of the ticket,” she laughed.
Shenea’s husband, Robert, is the family’s “regular” lottery player who occasionally buys her scratch-offs. “But this time I just happened to pick one up myself after work,” she said. “And I got lucky!”
“I called my husband immediately, and I was like, ‘You know what? I hit the lottery!’”
“I didn’t believe her at first,” Robert said. “I thought she was lying.”
She said that her husband immediately “just started calling everybody.”
“I think there was probably an influx of tickets bought in the Somerset area,” she joked.
As for plans with the winnings? “We’ll pay off bills, and we really don’t know what to do with the rest yet. We’ve been blessed in life, and this is just another blessing,” the couple said.
After taxes, Shenea took home $36,250. Midland Farms received $500 for selling the winning ticket.
