Kentucky Lottery promotion leads to a $100,000 Pick 4 win for an Estill County man. The Lottery’s 14 Days of Christmas in July kicked off Monday, July 14 with its first round of promotions – Buy $10 of Pick 3 tickets and receive two 50-cent Pick 4 Box Quick Picks for free.
The Estill County man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased four $10 Pick 3 tickets the morning of July 14 at the Midpoint Food Mart, 905 Richmond Road, Irvine, Ky. For his purchase, he received four Pick 4 promotional tickets, each having the two free Pick 4 Box Quick Picks.
“When your promotional tickets kicked out, the first ticket I saw was 9273,” the man told lottery officials. “My Pick 3 numbers are 937. Those numbers are personal to me; a buddy of mine who passed away always played 937.”
When the man saw 9273 and it made him remember his brother’s birthday, which is Sept. 27 or 927.
“I told the store clerk, ‘You have to give me two $10 Pick 4 tickets with 9273,’ and that’s how it happened,” he said.
Later that night after the Kentucky Lottery’s evening drawing, the man realized the Pick 4 winning numbers were 9273.
“I told my wife, ‘Honey I think I just won $100,000,’” he laughed. By playing $10 on each Pick 4 ticket with 9273, he won $50,000, making his total win $100,000.
His wife, who drove to the Kentucky Lottery office with him recently, said her husband was so excited she thought he was going to have a heart attack.
“I was worried about him. He was so excited. He kept me up half the night,” she joked.
The couple plans to give some of the money, $72,000 after taxes, to their kids and save the remaining winnings.
Midpoint Food Mart will receive $1,000 for selling the winning tickets.
Pick 3 and Pick 4 are two of several draw games offered by the Kentucky Lottery. Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings are conducted twice a day: at Midday, about 1:20 p.m. EST and on evenings, about 11 p.m. EST.
The Kentucky Lottery’s 14 Days of Christmas in July is available at more than 3,500 retailers across the state and runs until Sunday, July 27. Every two days there is a new promotional offer.
