It was late at night, on December 19th, when a Winchester woman discovered she won the $225,000 top prize playing the Kentucky Lottery’s Cash Ball 225 game.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told lottery officials she plays Cash Ball 225 regularly and will usually check her tickets each night after the drawing.

“I kind of glanced at my ticket and saw a couple numbers match,” she said.  “I did a double take, and I was like, wait a minute, I have all these numbers.”

“I was a little in shock,” she added.

She went in to wake her husband up, when she told him, “I think I won $225,000!” “I didn’t really know what was going on,” he said.  “I thought she was crying.”

“I had a hard time getting the words out.  All I could do was giggle,” she said.  She handed him the ticket along with his glasses and her phone with the winning numbers pulled up.  “That’s when we went into shock mode.”

The woman put the signed ticket in a safety deposit box at her bank where she let it stay until claiming the prize.  “I talked to my tax person and was told I should wait until January to cash it in,” she told officials.

She was anxious about not having the ticket in her possession but was reassured after picking it up at the bank.  “When I got it out at the bank in the parking lot, I scanned it again and it still said that I won,” she said laughing.

Earlier this month, the Clark County woman received a check for $162,000.72 after taxes.  The ticket also matched the Cash Ball on another set of numbers, winning $1.  The couple said they plan to pay off bills and may do a few things around the house.

Gasoline Alley in Winchester, where the winning ticket was sold, will receive $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.
